Settled by the Saxons over 1000 years ago, Barnstaple is the oldest borough in the country and to this day, is the business, agricultural and tourism centre of beautiful North Devon. It lies in the River Taw valley 7 miles from the mouth and at the beginning of Tarka country. Its the centre point for travelling to Bideford and North Cornwall, Exmoor and Dartmoor.
